3-5 Central Park North , Manhattan

Occupying the current site of the La Hermosa church on the corner of 110th Street (Central Park North) and 5th Avenue (Duke Ellington Circle) this project proposed a new state of the art church with ancillary office sand school, with a residential tower above. There is also a large commercial space fronting to 5th Avenue. The concept behind the form of the tower is that of a twisting figure. The base of the tower, the legs, align north-south with the rigid New York city street grid. The middle portion or torso is turned 45 degrees to face on Duke Ellington Circle and acknowledge the main residential entry point. The upper floors, the head of the figure, where the most sought after residences are located, is turned to look diagonally across Central Park toward Columbus Circle thus maximizing the number of units with park views.
